Chiropractic Care
A chiropractic adjustment, also called a spinal manipulation or joint manipulation, is a therapeutic treatment where a licensed chiropractor uses their hands or special instruments to manipulate joints and soft tissues in your body. This treatment eliminates misalignments of the spine called subluxations from the body. Subluxations can cause many problems to the neurological and musculoskeletal system and ultimately reduces the body’s ability to heal and recuperate. Chiropractic care aids in the body’s ability to heal itself by correcting your body’s misalignments and helping to improve how your body functions. This care can complement traditional medical care you may receive, and to some people, may be an alternative form of treatment that doesn’t involve taking prescription medicine. Chiropractic care focuses on alleviating symptoms that affect the musculoskeletal system and aids to reduce issues like aches and pain, muscle stiffness and tension, and acute or chronic conditions. Examples of issues treated also include: Arthritis, headaches, healing after a trauma or whiplash, joint pain and dysfunction, sciatica, lower back pain and neck pain.
Extremity Treatment
Virtually every articulation of your skeletal system is susceptible to misalignment that can decrease function and range of motion. An extremity adjustment is a realignment and proper rehabilitation of extremity joints. Extremity joints are any joints outside of the spine, including hips, knees, ribs, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, ankles, feet and even fingers and toes. When your joints are misaligned, it can cause weakening of the muscles and the tissues around the joint. Aligning the joints will restore normal strength and proper function. Examples of issues treated include: frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome, upper extremity, and lower extremity pain. Just like with spinal adjustments, chiropractic extremity adjustments, place your body in the position to naturally heal itself!
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Technique
IAST is a skilled myofascial intervention used for soft-tissue treatment. It is applied using instruments that are usually made of stainless steel with bevelled edges and contours that can conform to different body anatomical locations and allows for deeper penetration. Instruments effectively break down fascial restrictions and scar tissue. The introduction of controlled microtrauma to affected soft tissue structure causes the stimulation of local inflammatory response. Adhesions within the soft tissue which may have developed as a result of surgery, immobilization, repeated strain or other mechanisms, are broken down allowing full functional restoration to occur. Examples of issues treated include: Medial Epicondylitis, Lateral Epicondylitis, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Neck Pain, Plantar Fascitis, Rotator Cuff Tendinitis, Patellar Tendinitis, Ligament Sprains, Muscle Strains, Myofascial Pain and Restrictions.
Massage
There are many massage techniques and most variations involve stroking and kneading motions. These motions are usually administered with lubricants, making it easy for the therapist to slide their hands over the recipient’s skin. This is ideal for anyone with tension or tired muscles caused by many different activities like daily stressors, exercise, bad posture, or even sleeping in an odd position. At Moseley Chiropractic and Wellness, we offer massages that usually last between 30-60 minutes and help to relieve muscle tension and tightness or “knots” in the muscle. Massages can cause some soreness afterwards but typically allow the recipient to feel relaxed and rejuvenated in tandem with a chiropractic adjustment.
Therapeutic/ Corrective Excercises and Stretches
Corrective Exercise is a technique that utilizes a deep understanding of anatomy, kinesiology, and biomechanics to address and fix muscle imbalances and movement compensations to improve the overall quality of motion during everyday life. It is used to help assess and determine the root cause of faulty movement patterns and muscle imbalances that lead to issues with body coordination, posture, and balance. Corrective or therapeutic exercise is imperative in identifying and addressing imbalances that cause issues with mobility, posture, and stability of the body.
Massage
Myofascial Sports Massage
Myofascial release is a technique that applies sustained pressure on targeted areas of connective tissue, also called fascia, that surround our muscles and bones. This pinpoint pressure is intended to release the restriction in the connective tissue so that the recipient may have greater range of motion and less pain. Dr. Moseley or the therapist, who is trained in myofascial release, maintains this pressure and may increase for three to five minutes at a time in the targeted area in order to release the tension and pain. The goal of this therapy is to allow the fibers sufficient time to soften and stretch. Sometimes some lubricant maybe added to the skin so that Dr. Moseley or the therapist can locate and release the areas of connective tissue that are restricted.
Percussion Massage
Devices allow the user to loosen muscle tension, decrease soreness and stiffness, and increase range of motion and flexibility. Percussion massage is provided for patients who like massage and want a slightly more intense and focused approach. Percussion massage can be a stand-alone therapy or it can blend extremely well with other manual therapies. This massage allows the user to target muscle “knots,” aches and pains, and maintain the therapy in a easy relaxing myofascial approach.
Cupping Technique
Cupping is a type of alternative therapy that involves placing cups on the skin to create suction. This suction is applied to improve the flow of energy in the body and facilitate healing. Cupping increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed. This is done to relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. This technique also may aid to help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue. Cupping is used in our office to complement our client’s care for a host of symptoms and conditions. Some of the effects of cupping therapy include: reducing inflammation, promoting the skin’s blood flow, increasing pain thresholds, changing the skin’s biomechanical properties and boosting cellular immunity.
Electrical
Stimulation
Therapy
Electrical stimulation is a type of physiotherapy modality or treatment used to accomplish various tasks. By applying an electrical current to the applied area, Estim helps to strengthen muscles, block pain signals, and improve blood circulation. If you have an injury or illness that causes pain or if you are experiencing a lack of range of motion electrical stimulation, or e-stim should be considered in treatment. This technique can be used to: Help decrease pain or spasms, improve weak or dysfunctional muscles, and provide medication for inflamed areas of the body. Some of the medical conditions we can treat with e-stim include: Low back pain, Bursitis, Tendonitis, and muscle weakness or a lack of motor control.
Trigger Point Therapy/
Dry Needling
Dry needling is also called trigger point dry needling or myofascial trigger point dry needling. It is done to treat myofascial pain. Muscles sometimes can develop areas called trigger points that present as knotted areas in the muscles. These areas are highly sensitive and can be painful when touched or pressure is applied. They are also often the cause of referred pain or pain that affects another part of the body. During trigger point therapy or dry needling therapy, the doctor may push thin solid needles through the skin into the trigger point areas. This is not done to inject medication but to stimulate the tissue. This therapy is very effective because pain affects the movement of the body and this therapy is applied to aid in changing the way the brain and muscles communicate to each other to let the system return to a more normal and efficient movement pattern. Muscle soreness, aching and a muscle twitch when a needle is inserted is considered to be a good sign. Trigger point therapy is used to increase range of motion that may be limited due to muscle tightness or scar tissue. This therapy may also treat issues like: Joint problems, Disk problems, Tendinitis, Whiplash, Repetitive motion disorders, and even Migraine and tension-type headaches.
